First day of Safety Town, June 2002

Safety Town 2002 gets new look

Girl Scouts Kim Johnston (left) and Beth Middlecamp, second from right, helped build and paint new buildings for Safety Town. Dianne Wiemer, a teacher at Waller School, Jaycee Jeanne Otter (holding Courtney Richter) joined the girls in cutting the ribbon for opening day of Safety Town in June. Boy Scout Brian Soeth, not pictured, also helped out by painting the new layout for Safety Town on Waller’s playground.

The Burlington Jaycees sponsor Safety Town, a two-week safety education program for preschoolers held in June at Waller School. During the 20-hour course, preschool children learn safety behavior by participating in fun activities in a miniature town  complete with buildings, streets, sidewalks and signs. Licensed instructors teach about safety both inside and outside the home. Children also enjoy field trips to the Burlington police and fire departments.
