Octoberfest 2003

The Burlington Jaycees hosted their
first Octoberfest in Echo Park Oct. 4 and 5. The event featured musical
entertainment, children's activities, an apple pie baking contest, a pig
roast and the Jaycees 38th Annual Arts and Crafts Fair.

Scholarship winners announced
 
The Burlington Jaycees recently
awarded two $500
scholarships to graduating seniors at Burlington High School and Catholic
Central. Academics and financial need were taken into consideration when
determining the recipients, but applicants who demonstrated exemplary
community service were favored.
Megan Aldrich of Catholic
Central received a $500 scholarship. Megan plans to study speech pathology
at the University of Wisconsin. Her community service activities include
serving as a teacher's aide for the Special Education Religious Education
Program and active involvement in the Girl Scouts.
Michelle Langley of Burlington
High School received a $500 scholarship. Michele plans to study biology at
the University of Wisconsin-Madison, with the goal of attending medical
school. She is valedictorian of the BHS Class of 2003. Her community
service activities include serving as a group leader for a children's
Bible club and being part of the BHS Drama Club's traveling shows.

Jaycees recognized for Distinguished
Service
The following Jaycees were recognized
by outgoing president Kathryn Martell for outstanding service in 2002:
Gina Bedessem received the Brownfield Award for most active new member.
Craig and Tina Wightman received the Armbruster Award, which recognizes
Jaycees who have been active beyond their first year of membership. Jaycee
of the Year was awarded to Michele Oxley-Hase, for her outstanding overall
contributions to the organization.
Jaycees install 2003 officers
The Burlington Jaycees installed new officers Jan. 18. The 2003 officers are: Doreen Richter, president; Kathryn Martell, past president; Joan Kawalec, secretary; Jeanne Otter, treasurer; Amy Scherrer, management vice president; Peggy Behnke, membership vice president; Holly Reesman, community development vice president; Gina Bedessem, individual development vice president; Susan Oxley, publicity vice president; Michele Oxley-Hase, state director; and directors Julie Moen, Debbie Lindell, Judy Kerkhoff, Pam Szakacs, Tyler Mullikin and Craig
Wightman.
